The Fusion - review (Trinidad Guardian) January 2003
SW STORM has been knocking on doors for a long time. This year, the radio DJs finally listened and have given SW Storm his break. "The Fusion" is a 12 track collection offering Soca, Chutney and Kaiso. The Cd was recorded in Barbados, India and his native England. The Cd kicks off with the chutney-soca fusion entitled "Show Dem". This dance number features live traditional East Indian acoustic instruments such as the Tumbi, Sitar and beez-flute performed by top session musicians in India. Sonia Pancer also performs vocals. "Only You" is a love song done soca-style in which Storm throws in some pop vocals over a rich soca melody with zydeco elements. Memories of Carl and Carol Jacobs drift to the fore as you groove to the track. He then travels to China for "Luv ya long time", the story of a Chinese girl who is deeply in love with him. Storm does an interesting rap breakdown in the middle of the piece. In the end, she charges him 2,000 Yen for all that long time loving! Track 4 is the most adventerous pan song i've ever heard. I hope some bright arranger picks up on "Poom Poom(bass)" and uses it in competition. The fast paced song has an element of humour in it and the horn lines simulate laughter. I love it !. Boogsie, check out this one for the bomb competition. There is also a treat for all those Sylvester and Tweety fans out there as Storm performs "Puddy Tat". Apparantly, Storm lost his puddy tat and it may have come down to Trinidad ahead of him and he's searching for it through song. Rich horn lines dominate. This item is expected to do well for Storm in the Tent (Spectakula) and on the Soca Monarch campaign. Storm then takes the pace right up on "Frenzy", a Road March contender that will make you sweat. RATING * * * * * Wayne Bowman - Trinidad Guardian
